Louis Vuitton’s London

IN London this morning to launch Louis Vuitton’s new Young Arts Project with Boris Johnson, LV chairman and ceo Yves Carcelle left us in no doubt that his French label has British creativity in its veins:

“Louis Vuitton’s affinity with London began a long time ago,” Carcelle told us.

“In 1881 Louis Vuitton himself was fascinated by plans to build a tunnel to join France to London and he instructed his son to learn English and open a store in London. That store opened in 1885 and unfortunately work stopped on the tunnel until 1993 – but we opened another store that year too and I came to launch it with Patrick Vuitton, fifth generation Louis Vuitton, and we were very pleased to fulfil the wishes of our founder – only a century late!
